PABLO: THE PREDICTED BUT UNEXECPECTED DISASTER

by : Joseph Rizon

It was a blow to the community of Compostela Valley Province and Davao Oriental in the island of Mindanao to experience such calamity. Some had lived for 30, 40, and 50 years of existence in these areas yet according to them, this was the most terrible. Hundreds of casualties and missing people were brought by the dreadful super typhoon and what took the tropical storm to devastate easily the affected beings, was their unexpected approach to this typhoon “PABLO”.

Unlike other areas in the Philippines, supposedly, these provinces are unusual to get into this cruelty of nature. These are mountainous zones that typically trap strong winds. And that what makes residents there confident in facing any blustery conditions. But this time, their confidence leads them to a complicated situation. Allegedly, the effect of Pablo to these disturbed provinces is just steam of the typhoon and short duration of wind gust. However, what has happened was a total mishap.

News has spread before that heart-rending day happened. It’s much forfeiture to persons who did not grasp the risk to prepare and evacuate to safer centers. To others, it was miserable and unfair that some municipalities did not force to evacuate their residents. Some says that it could be prevented if task forces vigorously evacuated refractory inhabitants.

Living in a society with no occurrence of much catastrophes, is not a bases to reprehend the words of our instinct, remember that “Prevention is better that cure”. If a life will lost it cannot taken back. If we can bring back the moment, we surely vetoed it. But we cannot repudiate also that it is all our unmannerly actions that enables this calamity to shatter us effortlessly. Now, Let us just be thankful that we are given a chance. It’s really probably not our end or there’s must be something we need to finish. But whatever is that, lets us all be reminded that “In every experience, we get a lesson from it” and that what makes us stronger and wiser in the future.

Who is more persistent: the inferior or the fortunate?

by : Samuel Babiano

Wealth is defined as the riches that the poor wants to have and the rich don’t want to lose. It is the means of suppressing poverty and surviving the austerity of the world. It can run a realm and abundantly quench the thirst of people’s needs and wants. That’s how powerful wealth is. But to attain these things, require total effort. It definitely needs patience, perseverance and hard work to own it. But who among has the persistency to obtain these: the inferior or the fortunate?
Customarily, the source of living of the poor requires much strength and long term work to-do. With all that determination, of course they will get earnings; but unfortunately, not congruent to the effort exerted. And that gives them the indication that beyond their utmost potency, it still not suffices all their needs. That is why, we can’t change the idea, which they settle for a job, at least can bequeath them a wage just enough to eat three times a day. And that’s how poor lives.
On the contrary, privileged individuals have a vast cause of income. They will not settle for less and petrified to mislay there assets. They are wise enough in preserving and gaining their profits. It is already an initiative to them to uphold such condition because they are afraid to become meager. That’s why; they are more determined to strive harder. They are more persistent to exist as prosperous ones.
Afar from talking their subsistence about their status, it is still everyone’s reliance on their dream whether they continue or elude what they really want to be and what they wish to have. If there are million reasons, there are also million ways to experience success. But again, it’s how a particular person’s perception and satisfaction about their living.

I as opining author, is just elucidating such subject base on what really our present and mostly laypeople sort out. We are responsible in every aspect the world undergoes. We are part of everything. We innately have the rights to be informed about issues that give us awareness. And that what makes us important individuals even if you’re RICH or POOR.

Politicians, Leaders?

by : Ellvan Campos

Japan, Switzerland and Singapore are some of the affluent countries in the world, even if their place is not blessed with natural resources. Wondering, we are amused by their place and wishing the someday we can go there. In spite of the absence of treasures, they still manage to make a name in very field of success. The only key of their supremacy to the other place is that they have skilled, astute citizens. Oppositely, Philippines, acquires miles and miles of golden land, is too far from those countries. How come that we endure poverty where in fact, we have the wealth that the other place don’t have?
People. Citizens. It is the people that are the hindrance of the richness of this country. Come to think of it, we, the Filipino citizens, are making our own place suffer. It is odd to hear but it’s the reality. Leaders here in the Philippines are just the best proof. They are known to be corrupt, selfish and greedy. Instead of leading our country to the path that we must travel, they are just doing the opposite. They let the foreign investors use the resources that we own without asking to our approval (that will surely be a big “NO” for us Filipinos). Consequently, Filipino people are prohibited in using our resources. In other words, we don’t have the right to freely develop the wealth we have.
Political leaders tend to do unrightfully acts rather than to serve the people honestly. They are abusing the power that we had trusted unto them. They are using their positions to widen the lands they own, to be richer and to strengthen their powers. The money that should be distributed to the people went to their pockets. Thus, many Filipinos are suffering starvation and illiteracy. Worse, some Filipinos don’t have shelter to shed when rains come and worst, some Filipino’s can’t able to eat three times a day because of poverty.
It is our leaders work to maintain the cleanliness of our surroundings and to keep the beauty of our nature. But as we can say today, the cleanliness had turned only to a dream. Pollution is scattered especially in the urban places. Mountains become bald. Garbages are anywhere to be found. In short, Mother Earth approaches to its dying stage.
The world has turned out into a modern one, a new one and a beautiful one. But our country lacks one of it because the contrary thing happens. We are always saying that we will move on for the better but still no action can be seen. Our country is still suffering from the hand of its leaders. Solution to problem is still far from reality and change remains vague.

stand by youth

by: Eloisa Faith Alamban

Millenniums have felt. Centuries have passed, Decades, years, months, days, hours, minutes, seconds and blinks of eyes have witnessed. Yet, we’re still diving into the pool of social illnesses. The problems of yesterday are still the same as today.
As a student, I can’t even pierce right away the thoughts that I have in my mind as a result; various queries are still enduring in the oblivious brainpower of mine. Some of these questions are for the elders who taught us good manners and humiliated us youth of being irresponsible yet they can’t even follow what they want us to do. Sarcastic indeed, that even elders are not called responsible by the way they have shown us what they've got. I pity them for, until now, they can’t handle responsibilities in greater scope. They’re deaf on their own.
They are nonsense in some sensible senses. Why? Because they’re opening issues which are nothing but a brain tumor and neglecting the news which paralyzes our body that even the tip of our pinky fingers can’t escape. I want the youth to be ready for this biggest question, “Are you ready to pull the triggers of the guns of your promises?”
Youth, since the elders were ones like us and we will be the elders of tomorrow, I want everyone to be responsive and responsible; efficient and effective on our own little ways. Be active, for the future of the world is in our hands. Make difference, because we’re able and I know we can.
Before I end up this, I want to share one of the words from the “Nuggets of Truth”,
                                                    “Little strokes fell great oaks”.

The Real Man

by: Ellvan M. Campos

We usually recognize an embodiment of a man if he has a firm and immense muscles, beard, if he's intimidating and unbeaten. That is why, most if all of the men follow this 'qualifications' because this is typically what we accept as a standard of being a concrete man. But how about those guys who engage and deal more in purposive whereabouts rather than drinking hard liquors and smoking cigarettes? Men who cook. Men who wash clothes. Men who accept his mistakes and men who pursue their promises. Can't we consider them as real men?

If that so, what the community and the girls expect from men? Six pack of abs? A bundle of muscles? Or a frightening aura to shoo a hungry lion. Well, I don't think that's kind essential. A real man plays a vital role even it is not what men mostly do. He thinks nothing but the benefit of everyone and acts as responsible individual. He never hurt anyone just to add his masculinity and always loves to care everybody.

After all, it's not about having a big biceps but it's about having a big heart - a kind  heart. In arrears of everything, there is no worthy action that can lessen machismo; perhaps, it adds satisfaction that behind royal appearance of a man, he can be a servant with respect and loyalty to humane. And that counts of a REAL MAN.

Juvenile Delinquency

by: JOSEPH Z. RIZON

One of the conspicuous disputes in the society at present is the rapid growth in the number of youths engaging to inequities.  This is frequently occurring and observed within the four corners of the society that barely saddens of people who strongly believe that youths are the nation's treasured hope. The underlying question is,'Is there any other chance to suppress this dilemma?

Being the beholders of the nation's future, we are tasked to do our responsibility that is to constitute and maintain the peacefulness around us. But what are recently happening such as crimes, were mostly minors are involved, addiction and all other sorts of misbehavior seem to diminish this goal, thus, the need for change is highly sued. But actually, this change is not a matter of chance, rather a choice that lies within the palms of the youth. A choice that would certainly change the future of our precious nation. Now, you think of it youngsters.

Capital of Life

by: Samuel Babiano Jr.
“I’m sorry class. This is not my major. This was just given to me. Since, I can’t refuse so I just accept it. How many times did you hear this? Was it once, twice or uncountable.  Most of the times, this words are the defense mechanisms of several teachers to deny their deficient knowledge about teaching. Since, its insisted, that’s why they take it. A hoary alibi but until now I can’t understand why they keep on using it. It’s exasperating. How about our students nowadays? What will be the worth of the class if the teacher himself needs to be taught? Is there a captain who do not know how to navigate a ship or a pilot who illiterate to fly an airplane. I’m pretty sure it will sink or crash or maybe it will not reach its terminus.
According to famous authors (and even just the common sense), one of the premier elements in effective teaching is the “mastery of the subject”. As a teacher, he must have an excellence in teaching. Meaning, he had reached already the profound side of it, so that the deeper he has learned the deeper the knowledge he can bestow. That is the right. But why it’s not followed? There are some educators who teach “subjects” away from the alignment of their forte. What learning can they provide to students who paid exactly school fees? Where is the so called “quality education”
I asked many whiles the teachers in high school and college about that. And what they said was just alike. “We can do nothing. What was given to us was not our choice. I inquired also some administrators and they answered- “Since, we are in need of a teacher, that’s why we are giving that task”. And they added, “If we hire more teachers, it means, a demand of tuition hike”.
And the big question now. Is that a valid reason? What they want us to do? Wait and just assume everything is at ease? Is that what you mean? Candidly, I rather suffer in carrying the loads of my tuition fee than wasting money in a “half-baked” learning.
Across everything, I still do believe that we can give a quality education, especially for the poor like us. I still do believe that tomorrow and coming tomorrows, students like us will be given a clearer outcome about our education-the capital of our lives. That’s why you all should understand us. So, don’t entomb the entities of our future, our very own priceless DREAMS.
